PDVSA declares emergency as BSM (Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement) revealed plans to return 10 tankers due lack of payment by PDVSA.

In light of the reiterated PDVSA´s nonpayment of their obligations and the subsequent declaration by BSM (Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement) informing about the return of 10 out of 15 ships under contract with the German operator, PDVSA internally declares an emergency.

Days ago, BSM informed about their decision to return 10 out of 15 ships under contract between PDVSA and BSM, because of the outstanding invoices for the approximate amount of USD 15 million unpaid by PDVSA. Most of these vessels are located in Venezuelan waters while three of them are currently under arrest at Portugal and Curacao respectively. This situation led the German operators to consider the removal of the crewmembers from all vessel under arrest, as well from the other ships owned by the state company PDVSA.
Because of the above circumstances, an internal department of PDVSA declared the maritime emergency considering the vessels without crewmembers on board and the rest of the ships, which could be return to PDVSA soon.
