New sanctions against ships and owners chartered by PDVSA
Following the US department of treasury efforts to put pressure on the Venezuelan government, new vessels and Shipowners have been sanctioned after their calls at Venezuela.
Under EO 13806 the OFAC has placed the following list of ships and owners under sanctions:
MT LEON DÍAS
MT OCEAN ELEGANCE
MOONSON NAVIGATION CORPORATION
SERENENITY MARITIME LTD
The above listed entities have been sanctioned and placed under the SDN list latest update as the OFAC considered that material assistance to the Venezuelan government was granted by them even without been US persons.
In light of the above circumstances, caution is advised when receiving instructions to call at Venezuela, especially for tankers ships as most tanker terminals in the country belongs to PDVSA even if this company doesn’t appear in paper.
Due diligence before instructing ships to call at Venezuela is recommended.
