Government decides to put military navy officers at command of merchant vessels
Without explaining the exact reasons for this decision, General Herbert Garcia: minister of transport, announced that navy military officers will be placed at command of the following ships: TB YAVIRE, TB YARE, MT PARAMACONI, MT NEGRA HIPOLITA, MT LUISA CACERES DE ARISMENDI, MT RIO ORINOCO, MT RIO APURE, MT RIO CARONI, MT PROTEO, MT NEREO, MT EOS, MT HERO, MT ZEUS, MT ICARO and MT TESEO.
The minister informed that this decision of placing 47 military officers from the navy was taken from the president directly and also informed that these officers will carry on board their weapons plus 2 AK-47 rifles per ship in order to secure the ships voyages up to their destinations. No other details were provided by the minister regarding this decision.
